Dear Friend,
I remember watching TV when I was a boy growing up in Baltimore. From time to time the normal programming would be interrupted by a test of the Emergency Broadcast System. I would hear this loud, annoying noise for a whole minute. I hated those tests because they always seemed to come at the worst time—just when I didn’t want the show to be interrupted. And since there was never any advance warning that the test was coming, there wasn’t any way I could avoid it. The station just broke in and did its test.
The setbacks of life are like that. They often come with no warning. Your doctor comes back with a bad report. Your company downsizes and lays you off. Life’s setbacks just show up at the most inopportune times.
God’s Word has a lot to say about tests. In James 1:2, we are instructed to “consider it pure joy” when trials and tests come our way. That might seem like a contradiction to you. A trial is painful. There’s usually suffering involved. And God wants us to find joy in that that? Why?
Because suffering develops perseverance, it makes you stronger than you were. It matures you to handle more difficult circumstances when they come your way. God doesn’t promise that life won’t knock you down, but He’ll give you what you need to pick yourself up off of the ground and rise stronger than before.
I want you to succeed and start winning at life again. My new CD series called The Comeback is packed with 10 biblical messages to give you the knowledge and the motivation to get off the ground and start turning things around in your life. For your gift of any amount to our ministry, I will send you this series with my heartfelt thanks.
You’re not defeated. The fight’s not over. God’s in your corner. Now go make your comeback.
For His kingdom,
P.S. In November 2018, I will host a cruise to the Holy Land—Israel. You’ll have a chance to see the place where Jesus Christ lived, died and rose from the dead. Why We Do What We Do
"My story starts seven years ago. I had a tragic fall that shattered my spine. After a 9-hour surgery, rods, screws and plates replaced what was formerly my spine. For at least two years of recovery, I begged my husband on an hourly basis to either kill me or leave me. I loved him so much, but this was no life for him. He needed a wife, not a broken shell of a person. However, his unrelenting patience and prayer started to give me strength. I turned off the TV and opened my Bible. I spent the next year giving it all to God. Jesus was my constant companion, and I started physical therapy. Although still in pain, I started to regain mobility.
During this time, I started listening to you on the radio. As a result, great blessings started happening in my life. I was able to return to full-time work. I was able to get off all pain medications, and my marriage was cemented. No man should have endured what I put him through during my recovery. He stuck it out, lifted me up and helped me find my way back to the Lord."
