The God who made the world and all things in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands; nor is He served by human hands, as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives to all people life and breath and all things.
Acts 17:24-25
God has put all the parts of your life in order. He’s got your whole life in His hands. This means you don’t have to try to be someone else. Be satisfied with the unique person God made you to be. You are custom-made.
One of my shirts is custom-made, not off the rack like most shirts. It was tailored especially for me. And to make sure there’s no question about it, my initials are embroidered on the cuff. When something is custom-made, it is fitted uniquely to you. It is crafted with you in mind. Friend, you have been custom-made by Almighty God. Your days were ordained before any of them even came into being. In fact, you are not only custom-made, you are also a masterpiece. In the book of Ephesians we read, “We are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.”
The Greek word translated “workmanship” is poiēma, from where we also get our English word poem. You and I and every child of God weren’t created on the assembly line or as random objects thrown together to fill up space. When God made you, He went to work, intentionally and delicately crafting your personality, looks, passions, and skills, allowing your imperfections, and planting your dreams all into one magnificent work of art.
