I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you. – John 16:22
As he closed the door to go to work, his four-year-old son raced across the room begging him not to go. “Stay with me, Daddy!” he cried.
The father’s heart was filled with compassion because of the little boy’s request. He stopped for a moment and gathered the boy into his arms and held him close. “Son, Daddy has to go to work, but I will be back later. And when I come home, we’ll play together, just like always.”
He smiled at his wife and handed their son to her. Then he kissed her and said, “I’ll be back.”
As he closed the door and walked out to his car, he suddenly remembered Christ’s words to His followers, “If I go . . . I will come again” (John 14:3). Jesus reassured His disciples that though He was about to leave them, He would return for them.
Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also. – John 14:1-3
Many today want to question the authority of the Bible and especially the life of Christ, but every promise God has ever made has come true. However, just like the disciples, we need to be reminded there is only one Person who has the ability to make and fulfill eternal promises, and that is Jesus Christ. He has not left us as orphans, and one day He will return for those who have placed their faith in Him—for those who belong to Him and to His heavenly Father.
Have you entrusted your life to Jesus? Without a doubt, you certainly can. While others may fail you, Jesus never will.
