I want to tell you a story about a major event that took place in our lives one time in the Pacific Ocean. It was a trip to Alaska for people who support our ministry. We had about three-hundred people on the boat, and on our way back, the captain said, “We wanted to let you all know that we are about to go through a storm, and it might be a little rough.”
It was more than a little rough. It was the worst storm the Royal Caribbean had ever had in their history. The waves were hitting the boat fifty feet high. It was tossing the cruise liner around like a tin can! People were screaming. They ordered everyone to their staterooms. It was midnight, pitch black outside. All anyone could see were the waves hitting the boat.
Being deeply concerned for the welfare of our guests on the cruise, my wife was concerned because the ship did not use the inside passage coming back. Cruise trips to Alaska can sail either through a passage in the open ocean or through an inside route much closer to land.
The open ocean presents the possibility for a quicker trip but also for rougher seas. The crew had not informed us that we would be taking the “quick route” back, and Lois felt she needed to express her concerns to the captain.
In fact, the assistant captain said to her, “Ma’am we know you’re upset. We know this is a bad situation, but I wanted to offer you some assurance; this boat was built with this storm in mind. Back when the boat was constructed on dry dock, we knew we would hit a day like this. We calculated that into the building of the boat. We knew we would be able to handle a day like this.”
It’s inspiring that Jesus said almost the same thing to His disciples on a boat when a terrible storm was about to hit. You see, He wasn’t just another passenger on that boat in the middle of the storm. He was the God of that storm! While it looked like certain doom in the eyes of the disciples, the truth is that Jesus knew He could calm the storm. He knew that He would be able to handle a day like that.
And that’s what active faith in God is all about. Believing that no matter what the circumstances look like, you know that you will be able to handle it because the God of the storm is with you in the boat.
My CD series, Believing is Seeing, taps into the idea of experiencing the supernatural in your life by living out your faith in Him. It’s eight brand-new sermons for you which we want to put in your hands as thanks for your donation of any amount to our ministry. Start hearing what God’s Word has to say about believing in the supernatural power of God.
For His kingdom,
Why We Do What We Do
"I worked for a concrete mixing company for over 15 years as an office clerk. For many years I felt as though I should be using my talents as a graphic artist, but was afraid to do it. Listening to you on the radio for the past few years has done a lot for my faith and last year, I got a job as a graphic designer for a marketing firm. Not only that, it’s only three blocks from my house, and I can walk to work! You are such a blessing. Keep doing what you do and let the Lord do the rest. "
