Dear Friend,

On the day the Titanic was scheduled to set sail, the second officer was removed from the crew. In his pocket was the key to the locker that housed the binoculars that were used for the sailor in the crow’s nest to see far ahead of the ship. Because the key was missing, the sailor in the crow’s nest was limited to what his human eyes could see. Because he could not see the iceberg, 1,522 people lost their lives in the chilly waters of the Atlantic on April 14, 1912 when the Titanic sank.

The lives of countless masses are headed for destruction because of a missing key in their lives. The Bible makes it clear that the key to life is the fear of God (Isaiah 33:6; Psalm 25:14). To fear God is simply to take Him seriously, as opposed to taking Him casually. We respect electricity and utilize its benefits for everyday life, yet we don’t stick a screwdriver into an outlet. Similarly, we are to benefit from God but give Him the honor that is due Him.

Unfortunately, far too many people don’t fear God. We give polite acknowledgment of Him, but we don’t consistently make life decisions based on His Word. Only a radical return—a revival—to the fear of God as individuals, families, churches, and as a society will keep us from the inevitable plunge toward which we are headed.
