A Word from Tony

Today let’s talk about faith, which we could call the action of spiritual growth. Faith is important to our spiritual growth because it is the mechanism God has given us whereby we can tap into the spiritual realm that is above and beyond the world of our five senses.

When I refer to the action of faith, I don’t mean the kind of Christian experience in which you have to do it all yourself. One of the messages I hope you take away from this study is the truth that the Christian life is not a matter of self-effort. Neither is faith a magic wand we can wave over our circumstances and manipulate God to make Him do our will.

Read Hebrews chapter 11. Note key verses 1 and 6.

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.

In Hebrews 11:1, we are told that faith is “the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” Faith connects us with that which our senses cannot detect. Faith is a firm conviction about something we cannot see, hear, feel, taste, or touch, but which is nevertheless very real.

Reflect: According to Hebrews 11, what did some of the servants of God do to nurture and increase their faith?

Reflect: How is it possible for you to have faith in a God you have never seen?

Biblical faith is a settled confidence in the Person and the promises of God as revealed in His Word. Faith trusts in the integrity of God because it believes that God has told the truth about unseen realities. Faith transports us to a supernatural realm that transcends our senses.

Reflect: How does having faith change the way you deal with your daily situations? How will it impact your growth?

Reflect: Discuss with someone one area in your life where your faith caused you to begin performing works that demonstrate that faith.

For His Kingdom,

Tony Evans

Prayer: Give me the faith I need in order to please You. Help me to act like it’s so even when it’s not so, in order that it might be so, just because You said so. In Christ's name, Amen.
