Q&A with Tony

Q: Since the mind is a key battlefront in spiritual warfare, what are some practices and disciplines we can take up that help us to protect and renew our minds?

A: Scripture is the main source for protecting and renewing our minds. It comes through reading, memorizing and studying Scripture. But in addition to all of that, it most powerfully comes from using Scripture.

Remember what Jesus did? He quoted Scripture to the devil when He was tempted in the wilderness in Matthew 4. It is the using of Scripture when facing attacks from the devil that gives you victory in spiritual warfare.

Q: Why did God choose to give a will—the ability to choose right and wrong—to angelic beings that were created to serve Him and execute His will?

A: God gave angelic beings a will because God believes in freedom, or choice. It doesn’t make you sin, but it allows for it because God wants His creation to worship Him because they choose to, not because they’re made to.

Q: How have you seen prayer impact spiritual warfare in the life of your church?

A: In our ministry, when we were being put out of the school where we were meeting for Sunday services, there were those who were against us. They didn’t want us to stay in the school any longer and had a vote to remove us. So, we brought our congregation together and prayed, asking God to overrule. When it came time for the vote, two of the council members were missing. When the vote was counted, we had won—5–4. Later, we discovered that the two council members who were missing had been delayed because of an accident that had blocked the road, causing them to be late. God allowed all of that to happen so that the vote could go our way. Prayer can overrule what the enemy intends for evil.

Why We Do What We Do

"Dear Dr. Tony Evans,

I'm calling just to say thank you for all of your people there who pray for others. I received a card from your ministry telling me that your team prays for us. It's a great comfort that our requests are prayed for and to know that there are Christian people who care about what happens to me in my life, especially when I was having trouble, and it seemed as though I was getting the help I needed. So thank you, and God bless you all."
