Dear Friend,
One of the ways that Lois and I made it through seminary on such a tight budget was through house-sitting. When wealthy families in the North Dallas area would go away on vacation for an extended period, they would often call the seminary to ask for a married couple to come to live at their home in their absence. This way, they had trustworthy people watching over their property while they were gone.
For a time, students got to live like royalty. When you house-sat the owner would typically stock the refrigerator and the freezer full of choice food and then say, “Make yourself at home.” Once when we were housesitting, the owner had a Porsche sitting in the garage. When he left, he told me that I could feel free to drive his Porsche instead of my battered old rust bucket.
I drove that Porsche to school and back taking the extra-long scenic route. But Lois would always remind me that the entire house—including the car—wasn’t mine. We were just managing what someone else had worked for and built over time.
That’s how it is with God’s authority. It’s been given, but it’s not ours. We have been given God’s authority as stewards, responsible for administering that authority in accordance with His commandments.
That means staying aligned with His will. It also means mentoring and nurturing others to do the same.
This responsibility won’t be easy, but the good news is that we have been given the strength to succeed. Discover how to succeed in our special offer this month of my new book, Kingdom Disciples, and one of our most popular sermon series, The Key to Spiritual Victory.
Let us put both of these discipleship tools in your hands as our way of saying thank you for your gift which enables us to continue taking the Word of God to a world in need. May God richly bless you as you seek and serve Him as His disciple!
For Him and His kingdom,
Tony Evans
Why We Do What We Do
"God bless you abundantly Pastor Evans! This sermon came my way right on target. I live in Florida (Broward County) where we were supposed to have a 6 to 9 ft water surge. In other words, it was supposed to be a deadly catastrophe. I prayed, and in my spirit the Lord gave me peace before, during and after the hurricane happened. He is faithful and true. I can see how the Lord continues to be faithful and true with your ministry, pastor. Thank you so much."
