Now That Your Debt Has Been Paid | Tony Evans

When you open your utility bills this month, I would like you to think about something. The power and water you are paying for is what you actually used last month. If your bills are like most of ours, December is a busy month. So, your bills may be higher than usual.

We all had one debt we could never pay. Our sin debt was so great that only the Son of God could make that payment. I can’t help but think about this new year and the debts we will incur in the coming months that will be paid off after we use the goods and services. Isn’t it exciting to realize that we are debt-free in Jesus Christ? Our sin debt was paid in full, and we have no balance carried forward.

Looking ahead into this year, I want to encourage you to live your life with gratitude for the sin debt that was paid, and demonstrate your gratitude by the way you invest your life. Too many of us are in debt up to our earlobes because we spend, spend, spend. So, we owe, owe, owe!

Everybody goes through some version of the annual review at work. Why do companies hold this review? Because the boss wants to know how well the employees have produced.

A time of evaluation is coming for Jesus Christ’s stewards, too. Let’s pick up His parable of the nobleman in Luke 19:15: “When he returned, after receiving the kingdom, he ordered that these slaves, to whom he had given the money, be called to him so that he might know what business they had done.”

The Bible calls the day of evaluation for kingdom stewards “the judgment seat of Christ.” Let’s get ready.

This new year should be filled with hope and excitement for you as you grow in your faith and discover the unparalleled joy of what it means to be totally committed to Christ.
