Life Essentials Online Bible Study

To finish this week’s study on calling, I want to do something different. I want you to study a biblical character who, in God’s timing, discovered their calling and tied it to His eternal purpose. If you don’t know anything about the biblical persons listed below, select someone you know and believe is operating within the divine purpose God has called him or her to do and identify his or her calling and answer the following questions regarding their life and yours.

Select one of these biblical persons.

—Esther (book of Esther)

—Moses (Exodus 1:1–3:22)

—David (1 Samuel 16:1-3)

—Paul (Acts 9:1-22)

—Joseph (Genesis 37–45:15)

Reflect: What was their divine calling?

Reflect: Describe the character’s personality.

Reflect: What part does their personality play in the calling God placed on their life?

Reflect: What are some things they experienced that later they were able to use in their calling?

Reflect: What is the relationship between their calling and their biblical success?

Reflect: What life experiences have you had that God can use in your calling?

Reflect: Have you experienced what you thought were “wasted” years? How can God use those experiences to bring Him glory?

Reflect: Do you have a passion, a burning desire to do something specific in God’s service? Describe this passion.

Reflect: Has God revealed something new to you about your purpose and calling? What changes will you make to your life regarding this new insight?

Takeaway: Simply remember this always:

“For I know the plans that I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11).

For His Kingdom,

Tony Evans

Prayer: Lord, show me that You can use even the hard experiences in my life for Your glory. Help me to believe that You can redeem the wasted years as You continue to lead me in the divine calling You have for my life. In Christ's name, Amen.
