Life Essentials Online Bible Study

During our last few days together, I’d like to help you determine where you are in your spiritual growth. You may have already made some assumptions based on information from our time together over the last 5 weeks and I am prayerful that you have already began to see growth. Here are a few guides to help you assess your development.

Please know that my goal is not to make you feel bad about your level of spiritual development, but to help you determine where you are so that you can continue to move forward!

Spiritual Childhood:

  • Young Christians are either new to the faith or they have never grown beyond infancy in their faith. They have experienced forgiveness of their sins, but are dependent upon others for help in living the Christian life. Forgiveness of sin is a basic spiritual truth, which is all many new Christians can handle at this stage of their development. However, be assured there is nothing wrong with that if they are truly new to the faith.

  • Young Christians are also subject to instability caused by circumstances. When life is fine, so are they. When life gets tough they find it difficult to cope. They have a heavy dependence upon other believers to help them deal with life.

  • To young Christians, the concept of the Holy Spirit, who He is, what He does, and how He works is a difficult concept to grasp. They struggle continually trying to live the Christian life under their own power.

  • Young Christians know they need to rely on others for encouragement and strength.

Reflect: What, if any of these areas, describes you?

Reflect: What will you do to move forward in your growth?

Reflect: Do you know a young Christian? What will you do to encourage them?

If you realize that you are a baby Christian, make sure you are feeding regularly on “the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation” (1 Peter 2:2).

For His Kingdom,

Tony Evans

Prayer: Lord, thank You for sending Your Son Jesus to die so that I might have forgiveness. As I continue to walk with You, help me to grow more spiritually mature so that I can encourage others who have accepted Your grace. In Christ's name, Amen.
