God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. God blessed them; and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” Genesis 1:27-28
Be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. Ephesians 6:10-11
Mary did not doubt the announcement from Gabriel about giving birth as a virgin, but she did ask the question: How? She didn’t question God’s power or ability, but she wondered how He would accomplish the miraculous.
The most unique person in human history – God in the flesh – deserves the highest place on our priorities. He should be our everything. As the earth revolves around the sun, so should Christ be the center of our existence. As my favorite song by my favorite group the Temptations tells it plainly, we should also sing to Jesus, “You’re my everything.”
When the angel Gabriel visited Mary to foretell the birth of the Messiah, he instructed Mary that she should call the baby Jesus because that name meant that He would save His people from their sins. Jesus is the New Testament equivalent of the Old Testament name Joshua which means “salvation.”
