But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you. (John 14:26)
Covenants are administered by God’s representatives, who function according to a hierarchical chain of command. A hierarchy, simply defined, is an order that runs within a particular alignment. Like automobiles that need to be properly aligned, covenants work best when they function in God’s ordained order.
In 1 Corinthians 11:3, Paul lays out this principle of God’s hierarchical relationships in a much broader context: “I want you to understand that Christ is the head of every man, and the man is the head of a woman, and God is the head of Christ.”
No person who names the name of Jesus Christ can claim autonomy. No man may say, “Because I am a man, I can do whatever I want.” No, Christ is your head, your covering. You are answerable to Him. Each of us is under authority.
There is even a hierarchy in function within the equality of the Trinity, because Paul said, “God is the head of Christ.” That’s why, when Jesus was on earth, He was obedient to the Father and said He would only do the Father’s will. God works through a chain of command even within Himself in order to accomplish His plan and program in history.
Why is this so crucial? Because if you rebelliously break God’s chain of command, you automatically lose the fullness of His blessing and His covering. You have rebelled against God’s order.
Take time to examine the various roles you fulfill in your life—whether that be of child, parent, wife, husband, or single—and humbly come before God to ask Him to enable you to stay within His prescribed hierarchy within those. Then watch Him open up the flow of His blessings to you.
