His Glory Won’t Be Shared

I glorified You on the earth, having accomplished the work which You have given Me to do. – John 17:4

God will share His glory with no one. To passionately pursue God’s glory in all that you do is to passionately pursue the heart of God Himself. The reason He has saved you, the reason He elected you, the reason you are a child of God is to make you part of the community of people called the church, which exists for His glory alone.

God is the King of kings and the Lord of lords. He is the Creator of the universe. Yet far too often we’re content to give Him the leftovers in our lives. We’re reluctant to adjust our schedules, desires, or plans to what He wants. To ascribe glory to God is the highest purpose that exists. Jesus acknowledged this in today’s verse. Jesus also prayed, “For this purpose I came to this hour. Father, glorify Your name” (John 12:27-28).

Christ laid down His life for the glory of God. Can you say that in difficult times you will submit to the Lord’s purpose and trust that He will be glorified? Remember, God uses all things for His glory. Even the painful things in your life, when they are properly yielded to the purposes and plans of God, can bring Him glory. In difficult times, try to focus on the purpose rather than the pain. In the purpose you can find the encouragement to know that you have been chosen to bring God glory.
