Life Merge by Jonathan Pitts

It has been a joy to serve Dr. Evans and The Urban Alternative for the past four years and every year has been filled with God-sized, mind-blowing growth in our ability to provide Dr. Evans’ teaching and preaching to a world in need through radio, television, internet, and various other forms. The stories of life change are incredible and come in overwhelming volume.

Well, this year has been no let down, and one of highlights of my year has been seeing how the Lord saw fit to merge my worlds in a way I could have never dreamed.

Many of you have watched the movie War Room. You may have even seen or heard Dr. Evans promote the movie as a film that every Christian ought to see because of its focus on our primary activity as believers, which is prayer. The movie has not disappointed and has gone over $50 million at the box office, a surprise to everyone in Hollywood. Well, imagine my excitement when our team was tasked this summer with helping to promote this movie through partnerships with the writers and producers, the Kendrick Brothers, as well as Sony.

You might also know that Dr. Evans’ daughter, Priscilla Shirer, starred as Elizabeth Jordan, the mom whose life was transformed through a relationship with a woman who taught her how to pray. I found it an amazing joy in supporting my boss’s daughter who also happens to be my wife’s first cousin and best friend. (If you didn’t already know, I’m married into this ministry.J)

Well, if that isn’t personal enough, I conclude this writing as a proud father and a man humbled by the Lord’s sovereignty that cast my daughter, Alena, as “Danielle,” in War Room. Yes, you can smile and clap if you’d like. I know I am right now! Alena has been a fan and critic favorite, and we couldn’t be more excited for her and for the future God has planned, whether more acting is involved or not!

The last year and a half of my life has looked like a complete merger of ministry, personal, family, and entertainment life. At times it has been unbelievably overwhelming, but we (speaking for TUA, Dr. Evans, and my family) have thoroughly enjoyed the ride and are grateful that the Lord chose us for it.

One of the great joys, currently, is seeing Dr. Evans’ book, Prayers for Victory in Spiritual Warfare, bless so many thousands of people that have had their hearts pricked by the Holy Spirit to seek the Lord deeper through fervent and sincere prayer. I can say with extreme confidence that “the Lord works all things together for the good of those that are called according to His purpose.”

I recall a time when I had some serious ant hills on my front lawn. As these ants served their queen, they built mounds on my lawn, turning a once-green lawn into a place of foreign habitation. They were building their own kingdom on my lawn, so I needed to address their presence. If I didn’t...
