The great Hoover Dam produces enough energy for three states: California, Nevada and Arizona. You might think of this dam as an example of power under control. If all the water held back were to be released at once, it would bring disaster to the very areas it was designed to help.
When power is out of control, it can produce a tsunami.
The power we possess in our lives is that. When power is out of control, it can produce a tsunami. A flood of damage. A torrent of chaos which sweeps through our lives, destroying everything in its path.
We’ve all seen examples of people in the news who seem to have lost all sense of control. It’s a scary thing to witness. They seem like they have gone crazy, and they do things that hurt others and hurt themselves.
We sometimes lose our self-control and do things we regret later.
Sometimes when we honestly look at ourselves in the mirror, we realize that we are not handling our own power very wisely. We sometimes lose our self-control and do things we regret later.
That’s why we must surrender our lives to Jesus Christ, putting Him in control of our gifts, skills, talents and personal strength. We need to humble ourselves daily under the authority of God. For most of the chaos we face in our homes, communities, churches and in our culture is due to a lack of self-control. Getting your personal power under control starts with surrendering to the legitimate authority of God’s rule.
