Honor God With Your Finances And Expect A Return

When a farmer plants his rows of crops, he expects them to grow. He expects to receive a reward for his labor. Similarly, God wants you to expect to be blessed. If you will function according to the financial principles that He gives you, He wants you to expect to receive a reward both now and in eternity. There is nothing wrong with expecting God to keep His Word to you when you do what He says. It’s what I like to call holding God hostage to His Word. Proverbs tells us, “The generous man will be prosperous and he who waters will himself be watered.” (Proverbs 11:25) In other words, what goes around comes around. If and when you honor God with your finances, He sets you up to be blessed financially. The surest way to achieve financial victory is to follow every jot and tittle God gives on money, beginning with generosity.

In the book of Luke, we read about this same principle, “Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure – pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return.” (Luke 6:38) The truth you can bank on from that verse is this: Giving is the pathway to receiving. To put it another way, if you want something from God, you must first give something to God. Give, and it will be given to you. God wants to honor you, but only if He is honored by you.

Most Christians have it backwards. They say, “Lord, give to me and then I will give to you.” Yet God says, “Give to me and then I will give to you.” The fundamental difference between you and God is that God is trustworthy – you are not. God will always keep His word – you may not.  Oftentimes, God will give to His children and then He never sees them again. Yet if you will give to God, He will give back to you simply because it is impossible for God to lie and He has already said that this is what He will do.
