For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
– Philippians 2:9-11
How could Jesus humble Himself all the way to an excruciating, humiliating death on a cross?
Because He knew it was His Father’s will. And He knew His Father would raise Him up. Which is exactly what God did.
The world may not bow to Jesus today, but it’s going to bow later. A day is coming when every knee will bow. It won’t matter on that day what anyone thinks, because every person is going to recognize that God sent Jesus to die for him. Lost people will spend eternity wishing they had bowed on earth.
Those of us who name the name of Jesus Christ ought to be saying, “I’m willingly going to bow here and now. I’m going to bow to Jesus as Lord and be willing to take all that He has made me to be and use it for His purposes.”
Now, please don’t let me give you the wrong impression. When you get your love for Christ in first place where it belongs, you will find a cross waiting for you. Jesus said, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me” (Mark 8:34).
If you are going to be real with Jesus Christ, you’re going to experience some inconvenience in your life. I want to deal straight with you. Some people would have you believe that if you commit your life to Jesus Christ, all your problems are going to be solved.
Well, a lot of your problems are going to be solved, but you will also get a bunch of new ones. When you bow to the lordship of Jesus Christ, you go against the way this world operates. It may affect the profit margin of your business. It will definitely affect your family life, your moral life, and your mental life.
But I can also say this: living under the lordship of Jesus Christ is the only way to truly live!
